The search last Thursday in the Benniks brothers’ bakery is the result of several months of investigation by gendarmes from the Villefranche-de-Rouergue Research Brigade. Six people were indicted.
A week after the military raid on the village of Cajarc, we know more about this major gendarmerie operation. It all started in January 2023, investigators suspected drug trafficking between Villefranchois and Cajarc.
Trafficking and hidden work
In autumn 2023, a judicial investigation is opened by the Rodez Judicial Court, for trafficking in narcotics, carrying out concealed work, money laundering and non-proof of resources. The investigation is entrusted to the Villefranche-de-Rouergue Research Brigade with the support of the Interministerial Gendarmerie Research Group of Toulouse.
For several months, surveillance and investigations were carried out within the framework of the rogatory commission. “They led the investigating judge and the gendarmes of the research brigade to decide to carry out the arrests at the beginning of May, at the most appropriate time,” indicates the Villefranche gendarmerie.
60 gendarmes deployed
This is how nearly sixty gendarmes from Aveyron and Lot carried out several searches at the suspects’ homes, but also at the Benniks brothers’ bakery, which is at the heart of the case. The company of Figeac, CNICG of Gramat, gendarmerie group of RODEZ, GIRG 31) were engaged at the arrest sites. Two dogs specializing in drug searches supported investigators during the searches.
