They are made to cut through the heights of large open spaces, but these two have their legs anchored in the ground ofa glass cage, planted in the middle of a bar in the Paris region. Their beautiful green plumage, which recalls the color of the brand’s flagship cocktail, probably sealed their sad fate. At Mojito’s More of Montreuil, in Seine-Saint-Denis, the parakeets act as “decorators” and no one has eyes for them anymore.

The alert launched by a customer

After the show snakes of the Moulin Rouge or the parade of camels and dromedaries in the Bois de Vincennes, seeing captive birds in a drinking establishment no longer seems to move many people.

Since November 2021, “presenting domestic or non-domestic animals” is however prohibited in “any enclosed place or place to which access is restrictedwhose primary purpose is to welcome the public, even within the framework of private events, with a view to a gathering intended mainly for the broadcasting of music and dancing”, as indicated in article 48 of the law against animal abuse.

If the space where the cage is placed does not strictly fit into this framework, this is nevertheless the case of the one which is adjoining, separated by a “small partition” and which is used to organize concerts and evening events according to the venue’s website.

This did not escape the notice of a new customer at 20 rue du Capitaine Dreyfus, visibly more sensitive than the rest of the consumers to the animal cause. “He alerted us and we went there to check. We then wrote to management, offering to help them place the animals in shelters. We never got a response,” regrets Amandine Sanvisens, the co-founder of the association. Paris Animals Zoopolis (PAZ).

“We are no longer surprised by the inaction of the State”

The animal rights association also transmitted the information to veterinary services of the departmental directorate for population protection (DDPP) of the department, so that they can carry out a control and, possibly, sanction the establishment. Without great hopes.

“We are no longer surprised to state inaction. For the Moulin Rouge, despite hundreds of press articles, they have not moved. We also wonder if night professionals are well informed, if they know that it is prohibited. On these subjects, we regularly discuss with the Ministries of Ecology and Culture, particularly concerning the evenings organized at the Paris Aquarium. »

In recent weeks, MPs Danielle Simonnet (LFI) and Sandrine Rousseau have notably challenged the Government on these issues. Contacted by Paris newsMojito’s More assured us make fun of this matter, without an ounce of guilt. “You’d better write about Gaza,” we were also told to do between two pet names.
