Colmars-Les-Alpes: why is Fort de Savoie like this?

Why is the Fort de Savoie so named in Colmars-Les-Alpes in this is one of the questions asked this Friday in your 100% Provence quiz “I fear degun” on France Bleu Provence

The Fort of Savoy in Colmars-les-Alpes is a superb military structure from the 17th century, built between 1693 and 1696 by the engineer Creuzet de Richerand.
It is so named because it faces the old border with the Duchy of Savoy, a border having existed for more than 300 years between the end of 1388 and 1713.
The site was classified as a Historic Monument in 1923.

In 1693, a company detached from the Vaubécourt regiment arrived in Colmars and at their head, Captain Claude Du Puy. This company, made up of around sixty men, took part in the construction of the forts of Colmars, from 1693 to 1696.
