The threat has been in the air since the summer, but this time it takes the form of a real blow.

While 30 employees of the Gima weekend team have been fighting for months now not to be reclassified, AGCO (formerly Massey-Ferguson), the industrial flagship of Beauvaisis in Oise, has in turn announced A major social plan at the global level.

According to several concordant sources, 103 jobs of the 1,500 on this site would be directly threatened at the American designer of agricultural machinery in , a drop of around 6% of its workforce.

A decision of which the employees became aware during the economic and social advice (CES) from Thursday October 3, 2024. The “engineering” (design office) and IT services should be the hardest hit.

In a joint press release, the elected officials of Beauvaisis recall that a “legal deadline” extends until October 11 regarding this decision.

The president of the Beauvais Agglomeration, Caroline Cayeux (DVD), as well as Franck Pia (UDI), mayor of Beauvais, say they are in any case “very attentive to the evolution of this situation” and ensure they remain “fully mobilized to supporting employees and the economic vitality of the region.”

An announcement that makes people cringe

Behind the agreed declarations, the pill may nevertheless be particularly difficult to swallow for all stakeholders in the territory. Especially since the manufacturer of agricultural machinery has benefited from aid from public authorities (State, Region, Department).

This financing took the form of a costly viaduct to 13 M d’eurossupposed to connect two of this company’s sites in the ZAC de Ther. The creation of “at least 200 jobs” was then brandished in return.

But water has clearly flowed under the Blaise-Pascal Avenue bridge, and the promises to create jobs have fizzled out.

Agco-Beauvais victim of the “great global Monopoly”

The “difficulties encountered by the agricultural sector”, which result directly from the war in Ukraine, are put forward by the American group to justify these future workforce reductions.

Thierry Aury, elected PCF member of the community council, however, does not believe a word of it and denounces a “double scandal”. “Written guarantees should have been requested regarding the financing of the bridge,” he claims.

In the great Monopoly of global groups, the AGCO bridge does not weigh very heavily. I do not think that the Beauvais site is directly threatened. On the other hand, we can worry about his level of employment in the future. Nothing is guaranteed anymore.

Elected official in Beauvais and community advisor

The opposition elected official has been calling for many months now on AGCO leaders to be accountable to elected officials.

Regarding this last point, it will soon be answered (better late than never).

The president of AGCO , Thierry Lhotte, will offer a “situation update” to the community advisors probably Thursday, on the sidelines of a community council meeting. A closed-door meeting which promises to be particularly stormy, as the feeling of betrayal is strong among the elected officials of Beauvaisis.
