Nearly 150 military vehicles from the Second World War are celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of France at Château du Plessis, in Casson. Until Saturday May 11, 2024, they are brought together at the initiative of the Old Vehicle Heritage association in a US camp.
Jeeps, trucks, assault tanks, half-tracks, amphibious vehicles, motorcycles and cars in the colors of the French Interior Forces straight out of the 1940s have landed in the commune of Loire-Atlantique.
Exhibition and festivities
Since Wednesday May 8, 2024, an American camp has been set up within the castle grounds. An official ceremony, festivities and an exhibition of military vehicles are on the program for this 5th edition of the US camp of Casson.
The military vehicle rally is organized twice a year. The first edition dates back to 2015.
Collectors from Belgium and the Netherlands made the trip this year. In 2022, nearly 250 collectors and no less than 120 vehicles gathered for the previous edition.
Walk around Nort-sur-Erdre
The Old Vehicle Heritage association itself owns numerous military and civilian vehicles from before 1945.
A big walk is planned for Saturday May 11, 2024 morning. The Jeeps and other vehicles present will parade around Nort-sur-Erdre.
Labeled
The fifth edition of this historic event has been labeled a commemorative project. “Liberation in Casson”, supported by the Old Vehicle Heritage association and supported by the town hall, the CCEG and the Department of Loire-Atlantique, was selected by the departmental committee for the 80th anniversary of the Liberation in February 2024.
A total of eight commemorative projects were selected in Châteaubriant, Saffré, Blain, Casson, Le Gavre, Saint-Brevin and Ancenis.
