– Alpes de Haute Provence –

Saturday is the big day for the Alpes de Haute-Provence with the passing of the Olympic flame. A total of seven cities are affected. It starts in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie at 9 a.m. The flame is then expected in Sisteron at 9:25 a.m., in Digne-les-Bains at 12:10 p.m., in Colmars-les-Alpes at 1:35 p.m. At 4:30 p.m. it’s in Forcalquier, at 6:00 p.m. in Barcelonnette and finally from 6:45 p.m., if everything goes as planned, in Manosque.

An important safety feature

To ensure the smooth running of the day, the security forces will be fully mobilized. In total, 101 national police officers from the department as well as 225 gendarmes from the departmental group will ensure the security of the passage of the flame. Seven mobile force units will also be deployed, i.e. around 420 additional police and gendarmes.

Several administrative bans have been taken by the prefect. The carrying and transport of weapons and objects that could constitute a weapon are prohibited in the municipalities affected by the passage of the flame. The same goes for the purchase, sale, transport and use of fireworks, pyrotechnic articles, and explosive products. The bans also affect the sale, transport and use of acid as well as the retail sale and transport of containers of fuel or any flammable product.

Traffic impacted

First on the A51 motorway: Vinci Autoroutes indicates that exits 19, 21 and 22, namely Forcalquier, Digne-les-Bains and Sisteron, will be impacted by the passage of the Olympic flame during the day on Saturday. The prefecture, for its part, indicates that the roads used by the Olympic procession will be closed, for heavy goods vehicles 4 hours before the arrival of the convoy, and for cars at least 1h30 before the passage of the flame. Traffic will be restored as soon as safety conditions permit, indicates the Alpes de Haute-Provence prefecture. Furthermore, parking conditions in the seven cities affected by the passage of the Olympic flame are modified, sometimes as early as this Friday. In Forcalquier, for example, parking is prohibited in certain locations from 8 a.m. this Friday morning.
