This Thursday, May 9, 2024, volunteers from the Radon festival committee, delegated commune of Écouves (Orne), carried out the last stage of assembling a pyre. Since 1972, the feast of Saint-Jean has been celebrated by the burning of a pyre about twelve meters high. A crane is deployed on Ascension Thursday to assemble the trunks.

A twisted shape

“We want to give the pyre a twisted shape, it has a nice effect when it catches fire. This year, we have good wood compared to last year”, explains Joël Sebire, volunteer and architect of the structure. Saint John’s Day will take place on Sunday June 23, 2024.
