the Department of Morbihan affirms its position

While it reiterates its desire for the South Brittany offshore wind project to succeed, the Department of Morbihan has set out its conditions in writing, in April 2024, in the public debate stakeholder’s notebook, “The sea in debate”.

The departmental council, chaired by David Lappartient, considers firstly that “the future of the Morbihan coastline cannot be decided from Paris, Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) or Nantes (Loire-Atlantique). The level of ambition carried by the State requires a coherent territorial approach.”

In short, he does not want measures “too exclusive or doctrinal” and no harm “to the environment, landscapes, economy, navigation”.

“The project must move away”

Thus, as he had already said in session, in September 2022, “the project must move further away, especially since the technical developments expected by 2035 would make it possible to project future parks at much greater distances”. He maintains his opposition to 1er park, as well as those planned for continuity.

The Department uses the 2050 scenarios, presented by the renewable energies union. He thus finds “relevant” the scenario providing for the establishment of new parks “at distances mostly greater than twenty nautical miles (Editor’s note: 37 km) in order to minimize the visibility of the coasts. » And concludes: “It would have been good if this work had been included in the maps of areas suitable for the development of offshore wind power presented by the State in the public debate. »

A position adopted by Piebiêm

After reading the actor’s notebook, the Piebiêm association, standing up against offshore wind power, is pleased to “the clearly stated opposition of the departmental council against the A05 project (Editor’s note: THE closer to the coast). On the other hand, she deplores her position favorable to the development of offshore wind power and would prefer that the Department return to the line defended by the former president, François Goulard, who in 2020, spoke of it as a “crime against a nature of unsurpassable beauty”. For the moment, the choice of the consortium, responsible for building and operating the future floating wind farm, is slow in coming.
