South Gâtine (D1): 0
Country Maixentais (D1): 1

Clearly, Sud Gâtine does not like to host the Pays Maixentais. A little less than a month after its defeat in the championship (1-3), the Gâtinaise team was once again dominated by Aboubacar Madi and his protégés this Wednesday, May 8 in the quarter-final of the Coupe des Deux-Sèvres.

The latter also dominated the start of the match with a first strike from Bwamba, stopped by Giraudon (6e), then the not strong enough attempt by Bourgeois against the Gâtinais doorman (16e).

Aboubacar Madi: “It was very difficult”

Sud Gâtine went on a counter-attack and was very close to opening the scoring with a start on the edge of offside from Kontou who appeared alone against Moussa, but his shot lacked the power to shake the net (30e).

It was finally the Pays Maixentais which would be rewarded for all its efforts with the opening score of Bwanba. The latter took advantage of a long touch at the far post before placing a clear shot (0-1, 37e).

The Saint-Maixentais then had the opportunity to double the lead but Bizard’s recovery, well served behind by Bourgeois, was repelled by a defender (40e).

Returning from the locker room, Sud Gâtine took the match in hand and this quickly materialized with Michot’s shot saved on the line by a defender from Pays Maixentais (48e). This had the merit of waking up the visitors but Soumah did not hit his shot (61ste).

The minutes passed, Fatigue was felt by both teams and tension appeared as the end of the match approached. In the last ten minutes, Sud Gâtine threw its last forces into the battle but did not realize its numerous opportunities. The Pays Maixentais united and finally managed to qualify for the semi-finals. “It was very difficult, especially in the second half because they showed that they wanted to get back into the matchslipped Aboubacar Madi. We didn’t want to give up and that would have been a shame because we could have made a real difference in the first half but we missed the mark. We had to keep the score and that’s what we managed to do. »

“We can only have regrets after a second half like we playedexplained Franck Aimé, the Gâtinais technician. Already in the first half, if we had scored on one of our chances, it would not have been the same match. The guys pushed, worked well, they didn’t give up but it didn’t fit. This is the cut. It’s hard. Now, we will focus on the last two championship matches, hoping that the climb is at the end. »
