The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) hopes to open its Rosemont metro bus loop in June, after months of seeking solutions to a safety problem.

The infrastructure was completed in December 2023 after a year and a half of work. Just before the inauguration, however, the STM determined that the overhanging building posed a risk of falling ice and objects, despite its safety net.

“Some corrective work on the loop and the canopy is to be completed shortly. At the same time, we are finalizing the transfer of the loop from the Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal (OMHM) to the STM with the deed of easement, the deed of sale and the operating agreement,” indicated spokesperson Amélie Régis, by email. “We hope to have this transfer completed by June. »

Since the closure of the Rosemont bus loop for work, people with reduced mobility – including residents of social housing reserved for the disabled, located nearby – must make a detour to one of the temporary bus stops installed on the sidewalks in the surrounding area. At the STM board of directors, a citizen came to complain about having to clear the snow himself from these sidewalks, on which users are crowded.

“It makes no sense,” lamented in January Linda Gauthier, president of the Regroupement des activists pour l’inclusion au Québec (RAPLIQ), which defends the rights of people with disabilities. “The STM prides itself on winning awards here and there for the quality of the services they provide […], but I’m not convinced of that, not at all. »
