Haute-Loire: a young man found seriously injured near a burned radar, in the night

The nighttime fire of a construction radar in Polignac left one victim: a young man, discovered at the scene of the fire. His vital prognosis is in jeopardy.

A malicious act turned into a tragedy during the night from Wednesday to Thursday in the town of Polignac. A young man was discovered by emergency services, seriously injured and unconscious, a few meters from the construction radar which had just been set on fire.

A flammable product and firecrackers used?

The events occurred during the first part of the night. The firefighters intervened around 11 p.m. along the old RN 102. The road control system was recently moved there: it is located at the entrance to the Bleu activity zone and the Route des Estreys (in direction of Puy-en-Velay).

Yesterday morning, we discovered a device still hot, the facade blackened and exploded.
According to the first elements of the investigation – the investigations are entrusted to the community of brigades of Saint-Paulien – the author(s) of the fire would have used gasoline (or a similar flammable product) as well as firecrackers to neutralize the radar.

The victim suffered a flashback. Affected in particular in the face, she was transported to a Saint-Etienne hospital. In the morning, his vital prognosis remained serious. The Puy public prosecutor’s office confirms that it is a 23-year-old young person. At this stage of the investigation, it is unknown whether he was in the presence of third parties at the time of the tragedy. Still, he was fine alone when he was rescued. Apparently, no vehicle was parked nearby. Examining the video surveillance installed in the area of activity will perhaps provide some answers to the police.
