Eleven people were injured Thursday, four of them seriously, when a Boeing chartered by Air Senegal went off the runway during takeoff, an incident which led to a closure of Diass international airport, near Dakar, announced the manager.

The B737/300 type aircraft, chartered from a private company, Transair, leaving for Bamako, “excurred from the runway during its take-off phase this Thursday, May 9, 2024 around 1:00 a.m.”said in a press release the communications department of the airport management group.

The incident caused “eleven injured, including four serious” among the 78 passengers, indicates the manager who specifies that the airport is “Closed for the moment while waiting for the planned arrangements to be made.” Six other passengers were admitted for observation in the airport medical services, according to the same Source.

“The reopening of the airport is announced in the coming hours”added the LAS management group, made up of a trio including the Turks of Limak, Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass (AIBD, public) and the Turks of Summa.

The device “came to a standstill” off the track explains LAS in the press release. “The emergency plan was triggered by the airport authorities as soon as the information was communicated to them. Thus, all the airport’s emergency services were mobilized for the evacuation of passengers and their care as planned.
