The Haute-Savoie Assize Court is trying this week a man accused of having murdered his girlfriend’s father. Fourteen years earlier, his own father had also been tried for the homicide of his stepfather.

There are news stories that go beyond fiction. The Haute-Savoie Assize Court judges a man accused of having murdered his girlfriend’s father. The events, which occurred in January 2021, took place at night, in a shed on a farm in Pringy, a town located north of and close to the Swiss border.

Aged 22, this Haut-Savoyard, an agricultural worker according to information from Dauphiné Libéré, reproduces the same misdeeds committed by his own father. The latter had killed his father-in-law in 2010, with two gunshots, in the village of Choisy, also in Haute-Savoie. He was sentenced to ten years of criminal imprisonment.

This time, the victim was a 64-year-old farmer. His wife, aged 60, was hit in the head. A homicide of “very great violence” in the words of the prosecutor since ax blows were also said to have been given.

According to the version disclosed by the accused’s girlfriend, the couple had separated after weeks of tension. The young man, an apprentice on her parents’ farm, allegedly threatened her and forced her to have sexual relations. The accused’s defense is different. According to her, the latter would have sought to protect his ex-partner and her mother from the violence perpetrated by the father, a version contested by the two women.
