The Electron festival wants to popularize electronic music

For its 21st edition, the Electron festival is organizing a Late Night on May 10, 2024 focused on the Detroit scene. “It’s still the cradle of techno. We have two artists who come from Detroit and who are legends! Jeff Mills who is one of the founding fathers of techno. This is the first time that he will present, for a single date in Switzerland, his afro-electro-jazz-funk project “Tomorrow Comes The Harvest”. And Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale who is the first woman to play house in Detroit,” explains Danièle McClellan, the festival’s press and communications manager.

For the third consecutive year, the Electron Festival is partnering with the Grand Théâtre de Genève. “The famous institution organizes three Late Nights each year with different cultural actors. Their idea is to open their doors to a different audience. For our part, we want to popularize electronic music by taking it out of its natural environment which is clubbing,” continues Danièle McClellan. And to do this, the Electron takes over all the floors of the Grand Théâtre: the main hall for the 8 p.m. concert, the Atrium, the Bar Bleu in the basement and the foyer upstairs for the evening from 10 p.m.

Note again that, even if “the common thread remains electronic music”, each room has been redesigned to have its own atmosphere. “In the Great Hall, it will be a seated concert lasting an hour and a quarter. The Atrium will be transformed into a dance floor with a DJ booth in the middle. There will be two DJ sets – Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale and Lea Lisa. In the basement, it will be live modular synth, also with a dancefloor vocation, but in a different atmosphere. The stage was also placed behind the bar to leave maximum space for people. And at the home, there will be an installation with a DJ set more in an Ambient spirit, like a bubble of serenity,” explains the press and communications manager.
