Patrick François, vice-president of the Aude departmental council, was the host of numerous guests at the Narbonnaise branch, Tuesday May 7, on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition “100 years of the Olympic Games in Paris”. When he spoke, he paused on the history of the games. “Three thousand years since Greece created the first competitions during which men often competed against each other at the risk of their lives. And it is always our Greek friends who put the modern Olympic Games back in the spotlight in 1896 in Athens. The games are organized with the ambition of bringing together people from different parts of the world and encouraging friendly competition and peace between neighboring nations.”
The vice-president continued: “This Thursday, May 16, our territory, labeled “Terre de Jeux 2024” will be lit up by the hundred or so torchbearers. The passage of the flame will lead to a major popular celebration but will also honor Aude as a whole. “
The theme of the exhibition is obviously topical. In this case, it is an exhibition of stamps and postcards stamped on the 1924 Olympic Games on six large panels. The other four panels state the 2024 edition, including the quantified cost but also the numerous sponsors as well as the medals. The interesting exhibition is on view until May 30 at 13, boulevard Gambetta. The entrance is free.
