This is information revealed by our colleagues from France Bleu Périgord. On the night of Wednesday May 8 to Thursday May 9, a 200-year-old oak tree fell on the Route des Milandes, in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, near the Château de Fayrac. “Fortunately, no one was injured,” reacts Angélique de Labarre, the owner of Milandes. A gentleman was passing in a van at that time and almost got hit. »

The Château des Milandes, in Castelnaud, which attracts many visitors, is the former home of Joséphine Baker.

The services of the Departmental Council and the municipality of Castelnaud have set up a diversion. “The people in the Department were really nice,” says Angélique de Labarre. As it is a municipal road, they are not required to intervene. » Coming from Castelnaud, visitors must head towards Saint-Cybranet, before going back down towards Les Milandes. “But that represents at least a quarter of an hour’s drive more,” notes the chatelaine.

An event that comes at a bad time, at the time of the biggest long weekend of the year. “I am still luckier than my colleagues in barges or canoes who cannot sail because of the floods,” admits the manager. But it’s still bad,” before continuing, “if we hadn’t destroyed the new Milandes road, we wouldn’t be here…”
