This Thursday, the festivities began for the thirteenth edition of the Vendée Va’a, the famous Polynesian canoe race. A long-awaited event that promises four days of action and entertainment in Les Sables-d’Olonne.

According to -.fr, the launch was marked by the traditional parade of teams, accompanied by Polynesian dances, on the Remblai on Wednesday evening. Despite its brevity, this parade retained all its magic and charm, offering a glimpse of Polynesian folklore to spectators who were lucky enough to enjoy the summer conditions.

Program of the day: races and activities

This Thursday, May 9, two races are on the program. From 10 a.m., the men set off on a 46 kilometer event along the coast, with an arrival scheduled for around 1:45 p.m. The women also set off for a 15-kilometer course, with an expected arrival around 11:30 a.m. Alongside the races, numerous activities are planned on the Grande Plage, offering spectators total immersion in the Polynesian world.

Village and cultural events

The village, set up in the court garden, brings together 26 exhibitors, including 20 Polynesian artisans. Wood carving, ukulele making and weaving workshops are also offered. Without forgetting the concerts and traditional dance shows which will liven up the stage throughout the event.
