Stéphane Plaza says he arrives in Guadeloupe “like Christopher Columbus” and sparks controversy

Comparing himself to Christopher Columbus upon arriving in Guadeloupe, Stéphane Plaza has attracted much criticism. “Like Christopher Columbus, I sail the waves for a new adventure”, the real estate agent wrote on Instagram regarding the establishment of his real estate agencies in Guadeloupe. Remarks “unacceptable and shocking”, according to the president of the Executive Council of Martinique, Serge Letchimy.

The latter condemned this reference to the browser. “The evocation of this name constitutes an unforgivable insult to our people, Martinique and Guadeloupe,” he wrote on X, calling on the host to educate himself on the subject. “By comparing yourself to Christopher Columbus, you identify yourself as a murderer and torturer, responsible for massacres who actively participated in the European genocide of indigenous peoples and who instituted slavery and the sex trafficking of women and children, some aged as young as only nine years old »he recalled.

Stéphane Plaza did not directly respond but removed this reference from the Instagram post. The publication therefore no longer displays the name of Christopher Columbus.

Judged at the end of summer

This controversy comes as the M6 host is accused by three former companions of“humiliation, threats, verbal and, for two of them, physical violence”.

Stéphane Plaza will be tried by the criminal court at the end of the summer for physical and/or psychological violence. Placed under judicial supervision pending his trial, he firmly denied these accusations and ensures that he has never been violent.
