On February 3, four people were victims of stabbings and hammerings at the Gare de Lyon in Paris. Christophe, one of the men who intervened during the attack, spoke on BFMTV this Thursday, May 9.

“It’s getting better, I’m rebuilding myself.” Christophe was one of the victims, on February 3, of the attacker at the Gare de Lyon in Paris. This Thursday, May 9 on BFMTV, three months after the attack, the latter recounts how he intervened to stop the man, armed with a knife and a hammer.

“I know it’s going to be very risky for me, the attacker is trying to kill since he stabs me several times,” explains the latter on BFMTV.

Full of emotion, the latter “hears” the fact of being qualified as a hero but assures him: “above all I remain the victim, I came close to death”.

“The attacker came to do harm”

The man who was to join a long-time friend “skiing” that day also goes into detail about the course of the attack, which he can now recall, his voice still quavering. “I manage to tell what happened but always with a lot of emotion because the trauma was violent and very serious,” he explains.

“I feel apprehensive as soon as I see the bag at the top of the escalator (…) and I say to myself, something abnormal is happening,” Christophe confides on BFMTV.

He continues: “And then it’s difficult, I hear a lady screaming, I know I have to do something, there was no way I was going to run away. I’m not the only person who intervened, I immediately felt that the aggressor had come to harm and kill.”

“The blade passed very close to the carotid artery”

Clothes pierced by the stab wounds, violent wound to the neck… The hero of the Gare de Lyon also remembers the “fight” which broke out in the station with his attacker.

“As soon as I see the assailant getting up, I tell myself that it’s time to intervene. In a fraction of a second, I jump on the assailant, naturally a fight ensues, but it’s is much more violent than a fight (…) My clothes are pierced at the chest, throat, elbow. One of the stabs will hit me in the neck,” shares Christophe.

“My main motivation is to save lives and eliminate danger. It was after the fact that I realized that my life was in danger,” he continues.

After being injured, the man now realizes that he is a miracle. “I spoke again with the surgeon recently, and he told me that in my misfortune I had incredible luck. The blade passed very close to the carotid artery, the jugular vein and the two nerves which are connected with the tongue”.

Followed “for several weeks” by a psychologist, Christophe now has a single objective: “to regain the fullness of my means and especially of my mind”.
