The sun is here, finally! Our favorites and a selection of outings from May 9 to 12, in Corrèze

Here is a selection of activities to do alone, with family or friends, from Thursday May 9 to Sunday May 12, in Corrèze.

The sun is finally here, we must take advantage of it to get some fresh air, dance, laugh, learn… This second weekend in May promises to be full of events in Corrèze. To help you see things a little more clearly, here are our favorites and some ideas for outings.

1. Everyone brings their strawberries to Beaulieu-sur-DordogneThis Sunday, May 12, you have to bring your strawberry back to Beaulieu. Archive photo: Stéphanie Para.

They say that “True discipline is picking strawberries without eating a single one.” Sunday May 12, no one will be disciplined in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, especially since the weather is expected to be very favorable for the 31st edition of the Strawberry Festival, which promises good attendance. the Limousin capital of strawberries, even if today the production of this spring fruit is less important The six producers who will be present on Sunday continue to work with very high quality strawberries, sold at around 10 euros per kilo.
On the program of the Festival : a bouquet of street entertainment with folk groups, bandas, 60 exhibitors, demonstration of birds of prey, etc… With, as a highlight, the traditional tasting of the famous giant strawberry tart with its 8 meters in diameter. In 2017, we made a 30 m long, 1,500 slice pie in Beaulieu which is still in the Guinness Book of Records!
Strawberry production spread to the Dordogne valley in the 19th century. For a long time, vine strawberries were grown there in the shade of the vines. But with the arrival of mildew and phylloxera, the vines were ravaged and the economy collapsed. Farmers therefore turned to mixed farming and in particular the cultivation of small fruits, including strawberries. The peak of Bellocoise strawberry farming was between 1950 and 1970. In 1989, this production gave the idea to the sub-prefect of Brive to organize an event to promote the image of the commune and the entire canton. During the first edition of the Strawberry Festival, 30,000 spectators watched the cutting of the giant tart cooked in an oven specially built for the occasion by EDF.
