The 39th edition of the historic carnival of the town of Douchy-les-Mines returns this Sunday, May 12, with the flea market from 8 a.m., and at nightfall the big fireworks display. Guaranteed atmosphere.

As friendly, festive and colorful as ever, promises the mayor of Douchy-les-Mines, Michel Véniat, about the 39e edition of the Pipi-Malo carnival.

Just one day, lots of entertainment

This will take place over a single day for a maximum concentration of activities of all kinds. It will first be possible to hunt, in the morning from 8 a.m. and until 12:30 p.m. with the flea market which will take up residence on rue Pasteur, avenue de la République and place des Nations. Then, at the beginning of the afternoon, the big carnival will wander through the city, giving pride of place to all the cultures of the world, from Belgian folklore to the Rio Carnival via the West Indies, with 300 artists present representing 20 bands (musicians, dancers and canarvaleurs).

A 4-hour carnival

The procession will start from the Doille room at 2:30 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. on Place Paul Eluard. Giants, balloons, confetti cannons and trumpets will be there, announces Michel Véniat. Culture will also be there with an open-air show from 3 p.m. on Place Paul Eluard (three ten-minute sessions).

Jeffy Stars, international stunt champion, and his charming assistant Emy, will do their balancing acts to rock’n’roll rhythms. This irresistible duo stands out for their spicy humor and their approximate details… Finally, a large fireworks display will be set off at nightfall, around 9:30 p.m., at Maingoval Park. A large funfair will take place on Place Saint Paul. Catering and refreshments will be available to visitors on Place Paul Eluard.
