June 9 is the European elections. Voters from the 27 member countries of the European Union (EU) are called upon to renew the European Parliament. But what does the EU bring to Indre-et-Loire? Astrid Courty, project manager at the Maison de l’Europe in Tours, gives us some answers as the election approaches.

The European Union has participated in the financing of many projects, such as the Tours tramway (the first line) with funds from the European Investment Bank, to the tune of 150 million euros. There was also the Rives du Cher health center, financed by European funds, to fight against medical desertification.“, she explains.

Ecology and social issues also concerned

Astrid Courty also mentions the Life program, which translates, she details, into 2.5 million euros for the regionwith a project that aims to increase production renewable energy” in Center-Val-de-Loire, “and of course in Indre-et-Loire.

There is also “numerous projects linked to professional reintegration,” adds Astrid Courty, thanks to “ESF, the European Social Fund, to fight against unemployment dropouts.” This can involve funding local missions, she explains.
