CJEU decisions: Portugal reaffirms the essential nature of the EU-Morocco partnership

Portugal underlined, on Saturday, the “essential” nature of the partnership between the European Union (EU) and Morocco. The Iberian country also indicated its desire to work with European partners and European institutions “to deepen it in all areas”.

“Portugal considers that the partnership between the European Union and Morocco is essential and will work with European partners and European institutions to deepen it in all areas,” said the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release published on its official website.

Taking note of the decisions of the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) on the fishing and agricultural agreements between the EU and the Kingdom, the Portuguese ministry indicated that Lisbon and Rabat maintain, on a bilateral level, “a strategic partnership, marked by a long relationship of respect and friendship with great substance on the political, diplomatic and economic levels.

In this year which marks the 250th anniversary of the bilateral peace treaty, strengthening relations with Morocco, both at the bilateral and European level, “is a strategic priority for Portugal,” concludes the same source.
