The Boule Lyonnaise clubs in Yonne open their doors for you to discover this sport in its own right

Boule Lyonnaise is a traditional bowling game that has its origins in the Lyon region of France. It is very similar to pétanque, but there are some important differences in the rules and the balls used.

In Boule Lyonnaise, players use metal balls that are heavier than those of pétanque, generally made of steel, and often asymmetrical. The playing fields are also different, with longer and narrower tracks than those of pétanque.

What both sports have in common: throwing your balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called the “goal” or the “pig”. Players score points based on how close their boules are to the jack at the end of each round.

Competitions are resuming in five clubs in Yonne. See you on May 12, the Chichée club is organizing a 32 doubles competition throughout the day, on May 16 L’Yonne D4 Championship in St Père sous Vézelay.

From May 18, they are opening 5 sites in Icaunais to come and test themselves in the practice of Lyon boules.

Alain KOSTECKI, president of the Yonne bowling committee, is the guest of the 100% Sport podcast
