Murder of a drug trafficker in 2019: release of the lawyer accused of complicity after the fact

The lawyer accused last week of complicity after the fact in the murder of a drug trafficker has just been released this morning under important conditions, including that she no longer practice her profession for the entire legal proceedings.

Me Noémi Tellier had been detained since her arrest last Thursday by the Sûreté du Québec police officers.

The 35-year-old criminal lawyer, who was back in court this morning at the Joliette courthouse, was released pending her trial.

She faces a charge of accessory after the fact because she allegedly helped Kevin St-Pierre, father of her child and close to the Hells Angels, to cover up the murder of drug trafficker Francis Turgeon in Repentigny, in Lanaudière, in 2019.

Kevin St-Pierre and James Patrice Mardy are for their part accused of having killed the independent trafficker who allegedly contracted a debt of $80,000 to the Hells Angels because he refused to pay his sales “tax” in the territory.

After the crime, the lawyer allegedly carried out counter-shadowing maneuvers, and tried to hide an SUV which would have been used by the co-defendants to scout near the victim’s home.

Caution and curfew

To be released, Me Tellier had to post a personal bond of $10,000. Her parents each deposited $10,000 and $12,500, and one of her friends also donated $4,000.

The criminal lawyer will have to live with her parents until further notice and respect a curfew. She also had to surrender her passport and will not be able to leave Quebec.

Furthermore, Me Tellier cannot communicate with a former client, Wesley McKenzie, who was himself accused of the murder of Turgeon. The charges against him, however, fell in 2021.

Me Tellier also does not have the right to communicate with the two co-defendants, except with St-Pierre, his ex, when it comes to their child, and in the presence of lawyers for the trial.

Waiver

Another important condition: the lawyer had to give up her full right to practice for the duration of the proceedings in this case.

In particular, she cannot communicate with people with criminal records or pending cases.

Me Tellier will also not be able to possess weapons or firearms.

His case is due back in court on May 29.
