It’s kind of big box pretty simple with a little electronics in it. But it could make life easier for many residents Albi (Tarn). A pollen catcher has just been installed in the Tarn prefecture.

We owe this installation to Lify-Air, French leader in real-time pollen measurement. Allergy sufferers will thus have access to a hyper-local, real-time and responsive pollen information.

Count and identify different pollens

The sensor installed in Albi is capable of measuring, counting and identifying the different pollens present in the air it inhales. The data is then transcribed directly to the Live Pollen application available for free on the stores. Allergy sufferers therefore have a precise and up-to-date vision of pollens in their immediate environment.

The application allows you to know the intensity of pollen in each category in a specific area. (©Live Pollen)

Connected people can receive personalized alerts depending on the pollens that concern them, record feelings in a journal to enrich the dialogue with health professionalsbenefit from tips and tricks to better understand the allergy and adapt their treatment accordingly.

Already several agglomerations equipped in Occitanie

If this first sensor is sufficient to provide a first level of information, several should be deployed, estimates the company created in 2018. “The emission of pollen has a very local component,” explains Johann Lauthier, the co-founder of Lify -Air. “The grains generally fall between 1 and 10 kilometers around their Source of emission.” Thus, if the young company deploys an initial network in major French cities, it encourages communities to actively engage in the fight against pollen allergies and to join the fifty territories already equipped with ultra-local networks.

This system has already been implemented in at least two other towns in Occitania: Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées (Hautes-Pyrénées) and Grand Narbonne (Aude).

Remember that according to the World Health Organization, 30% of the French population suffers from allergiesand 50% will be affected by 2050.

Average risk in Tarn at the moment

At the moment, in the Tarn, “the pollens of grasses and oak take over from birch pollens and are increasingly present in the air with a medium allergy risk,” according to the Aerobiological Surveillance Network.
