Tourism: Getaways in Deux-Sèvres – France Bleu

Deux-Sèvres is an area where nature is omnipresent, with cultural, natural and historical sites to visit over more than 5,900 km2. What are the must-see places during a visit to Deux-Sèvres? Response with David Charbonneau, Tourism Director…

The Marais Poitevin

Spread over 100,000 hectares, it is the second largest wetland in France! In Deux-Sèvres there are 8,000 kilometers of hikes with bike loops to do without forgetting the pier with boat trips in Coulon in particular. And for the past year, you can also practice river tourism by staying on electric and solar boats which take you from Niort to Marans via all the villages along the Sèvre! You can also profile the bird park of the Marais Poitevinto discover all the species that inhabit our region since you should know that the Marais Poitevin is a classified site to protect the small animals that live there.

Zoodyssey

Animal Park located in Chizé in the south of the department, Zoodyssey extends over more than 30 hectares in the heart of the Chizé forest. On your way, you will encounter more than 800 animals, bears, monkeys, wolves, lynxes, bison, vultures, but also marmots, raccoons, otters, sousliks and the inevitable storks! All the animals live in semi-freedom in a preserved natural area close to their natural environments. A whole team surrounds these little animals with 26 agents, 1 veterinarian and 12 animal caretakers. An ideal setting which encourages animals to reproduce with 170 births per year.

The animals in the park are in their element which increases reproduction since there are 170 births per year in Zoodyssey. Workshops are also offered such as “The Caregiver for a Day”. You and your children become a member of the care team for a few hours. You will do everything, from feeding to cleaning the enclosures, from preparing food to caring for the animals, the park will no longer have any secrets for you.
