(Keystone-ATS) The working conditions of nurses must be regulated in an ad hoc law. The Federal Council opened a consultation in this regard on Wednesday. The training offensive, uncontested in Parliament, will come into force on July 1.
Better working conditions are an essential element in attracting future nurses. This also allows them to practice their profession longer. Early departures are one of the causes of the lack of healthcare personnel, recalls the Federal Council.
The new law provides for improvements on central points. Service plans must be announced at least four weeks in advance. The maximum weekly working time will drop from 50 to 45 hours. Ordinary working hours will be 38 to 42 hours per week.
The new law can only resolve certain points. This is why the social partners will be required to lead discussions to improve working conditions and to negotiate a collective labor agreement.
