Vincent Trocheck scored in the second overtime period to give the New York Rangers a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes. The New Yorkers take a 2-0 lead in this Eastern Association semi-final.

Alexis Lafrenière, with two goals, and Igor Shesterkin, with 54 saves, shone for the winners, under the lights of Madison Square Garden.

The Hurricanes were leading 3-2 in the 3rd period when Chris Kreider tied the game with just under 14 minutes left in the game.

Jake Guentzel scored two goals for the Carolina team, and Dmitri Orlov also contributed with a success.

Games 3 and 4 will take place in Raleigh on Thursday and Saturday.

The winner of this playoff duel will face the Boston Bruins or the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference final.
