The 24th edition of the Flag of the Head of State (DCE) begins this Thursday, May 9, 2024, in Mbour (Thiès). This will be with the arrival of the delegations, the weighing, the medical examination and the drawing of the pools.

In 2021, the new CNG team led by Bira Sène was innovative for its very first edition of the DCE. If the old team started its activities on Friday (weighing, medical examination, etc.), the Bira Sène team starts on Thursday. The CNG had taken this initiative to “allow the delegations to recover well from their trips and the wrestlers to be more productive from the first day”, explained Meïssa Ndiaye of the CNG.

In Mbour, this will still be the case, since the activities will be launched this Thursday. So, at 4 p.m. we will have: the weigh-in and the medical examination, then the draw (small categories and seniors).

All 14 regions of Senegal will present five wrestlers in five (5) different weight categories: 66 kg, 76 kg, 86 kg, -100 kg and over 100 kg.

The tournament itself will begin on Friday morning in small categories (girls and boys), then in the evening with the senior team competitions. The next day, Saturday, the weight category competitions will begin. And on Sunday, there will be the big team finals, in weight categories and the closing of the event.

However, the particularity of this edition is the elimination of the open competition, which brought together wrestlers in the 86, 100 and +100 kg categories.

Ndèye Fatou, Mbayang and Momo Ngom, the animation

Another particularity of this edition, the competitions in small categories (girls and boys) will take place in the morning, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

For this year, the CNG of wrestling has decided to entrust the animation of the DCE to the shock duo Ndèye Fatou Adama Dialy Ngom and Mbayang Loum. These last two are the two most popular singers of non-strike wrestling. The two ladies will be accompanied by the drummer Momo Ngom, the son of the great drummer Babou Ngom. In 2023, in Saint-Louis, Agnès Nide Ndiogoye and Faya Mbodj were used.
