Finland reaffirms its “strong commitment” to the EU-Morocco Strategic Partnership despite the CJEU decision – Le7tv.ma

Expressing Finland’s support for the joint statement by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, on the decision of the Court of Justice of the Union European Union (CJEU) on the fishing and agricultural agreements between the EU and the Kingdom, the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated, on its account ‘EU and Morocco’.

Recall that in their joint statement, the President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the EU reaffirmed the commitment of the European bloc to further preserving and strengthening close relations with Morocco in all areas, in accordance with the principle “pacta sunt servanda”.

Thus, the Finnish government welcomed the efforts made by Morocco to build a reliable and mutually beneficial partnership with the EU. Despite the CJEU’s decision, which annulled the fishing and agricultural agreements between the two entities, Finland has clearly expressed its support for a pragmatic and rapid solution that preserves the gains of this historic partnership. “It is imperative to find solutions that respect both the legal decisions and the strategic interests of both parties,” said a Finnish government spokesperson.

The Kingdom of Morocco, as a strategic partner of the EU in the Mediterranean region and North Africa, plays a crucial role in several key areas such as economic cooperation, security, migration management and the fight against terrorism . For Finland, this relationship goes far beyond simple trade agreements, constituting a pillar of stability and development in the region.

Finnish support for this joint statement also demonstrates recognition of the importance of the fishing and agricultural sectors, not only for Morocco, but also for many EU member states. Morocco, with its vast maritime resources and its agricultural potential, has been able to establish lasting cooperation which benefits both its European partners and its local populations.
