Friborg basketball is doing wonderfully. Olympic imitated Elfic by becoming Swiss champions for the sixth time in a row, beating Massagno 3-1 in the SBL play-off final.

Beaten 93-80 on Saturday in Ticino, the Fribourgeoises did not miss their second opportunity to conclude the series. They won 91-77 in Nosedo to win the 22nd title in their history, the seventh in the last eight seasons having been concluded (no title awarded in 2020 due to Covid).

Struggling defensively on Saturday, Olympic rectified the situation. Thibaut Petit’s men caused 12 turnovers in the first half, committing only 3 turnovers in the same time. They also dominated the Ticinese under the boards, where they had been manhandled in Act III.

Olympic also forced the decision in the first half, with an iron defense. The Friborgs widened the gap by signing a 13-0 partial to end the first quarter, which allowed them to lead 21-8 after 10′ of play. They were up to 18 lengths ahead, in the 17th minute (35-17).

Nottage and Jurkovitz decisive

Massagno regained hope by bothering Friborg with his zone defense, returning to 10 points at halftime (30-40) and even 7 points in the 27th (43-50). But Olympic was able to keep its distance and contain the final attacks from Dusan Mladjan (20 points), thanks in particular to the combined efforts of Natan Jurkovitz (20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 interceptions and 4 assists) and Eric Nottage (17 points, 7 assists).
