The city of Saumur closes its car parks on the banks of the Loire due to the risk of flooding

The rise of the Loire risks once again flooding car parks along the river. The town of Saumur, in Maine-et-Loire, asks motorists to collect parked vehicles.

“Following the rainy episodes of recent days, the contributions from the Loire upstream and Vienne basins are leading to an increase in the levels of the Loire Saumur. This increase, which will continue over the next 24 hours, is likely to cause of the first overflows and localized damage, particularly in the Saumur sector” announced this May 7 the vigilance site Vigicrues.

As a result, the City of Saumur has decided, since Monday May 6, to close access to car parks on the banks of the Loire.

“The City of Saumur informs you of the closure of access to parking on the Lucien Gautier and Mayaud slipways and on the lower part of the Carnot slipway from this afternoon, May 6. Vehicles currently parked on the Gauthier and Mayaud will be able to exit via the exit near Place Saint-Michel. specifies the City on its website.

At the beginning of April, the same causes had already generated these same effects and, despite the alerts posted, several cars had been submerged in these parking lots along the river.

The City asks motorists to recover their vehicles if they are still parked in these stalls and offers them other parking places: free parking on Places Chardonnet, Leclerc and Ardilliers.

Access under the Cessart bridge and the Millocheau leisure center were also closed.
