This face-to-face meeting with the national and international press is organized on the eve of Europe Day, celebrated on May 9 each year.

According to the text, ”this date [le 9 mai] marks the anniversary of the historic declaration made by Robert Schuman, in which he set out the idea of a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between European nations unthinkable.
On April 22, as part of a tour of West Africa, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, visited Senegal where he met President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
According to the press release, ”Robert Schuman’s proposal [qui fut deux fois Premier ministre en France] is considered the birth certificate of what is today the EU, of which he was the first president of parliament.
