A progression of sales abroad from 7.5% for the county in 2023 compared to 2022? Enough to put a smile on the face of many professionals in the sector! But according to the Interprofessional County Management Committee (CIGC) installed in Poligny, such progression is mainly explained by the recovery of the export market after a year 2022 where sales collapsed by 8%.

In 2023, export sales will return to approximately their 2021 levelwith an increase of 7.5% compared to 2022, notes the CIGC which estimates that this is the “ evidence that exports, unlike the French market, have begun their economic recovery. »

The committee explains that for three years, the export trend has been fluctuating. After an important progression in 2021, export sales had fallen by more than 8% in 2022.

10.7% of county production exported

Today, according to figures given by the CIGC in its spring newsletter (which itself is based on company declarations), 10.7% of county production was exported in 2023, either 6,165 tonnes.

These international sales mainly concern five countries: Belgium, GermanyTHE UNITED STATESTHE United Kingdom and the Japan.

For the committee, export, “far from being a dominant market, is nevertheless very value-creating and offers the committee a magnificent showcase on the world. During periods of declining sales in France, it may prove to be a valuable secondary market. »

If we want to be teasing, we can also wonder if this improvement in the market was caused by the sale of 2,000 kilos of cheese by the parents of students from Viry, Rogna and Choux in Haut-Jura.
