In Mayenne, high school girls organize a march in the streets named after women

George Sand, Colette Besson, Françoise du Bailleul… Several streets in the town of Mayenne are named after women. A group of four high school girls in general first class at Lavoisier high school will present them during a one-hour walk, Tuesday May 7, 2024 from 6:30 p.m.

“As part of a moral and civic education project, we wanted to raise awareness about the condition of women, says Leïla Oubtni, aged 16. We will present George Sand, a writer who took a man’s name to publish her works; Françoise du Bailleul, a Mayennaise who gave money to the poor; Colette Besson, a French athlete, etc. »

21 streets, 2 schools, 1 room

In total, the high school girls counted 21 streets, 2 schools (Louise-Michel and Pierre-et-Marie-Curie) and 1 room (Lucie-Aubrac) which bear the name of women in Mayenne, using a map of the city and the online mapping service Google Maps.

At the end of the walk, discussions are planned in the premises of the Les Possibles association, with an aperitif dinner.

Tuesday May 7, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., departing from Les Possibles (44, place Gambetta in Mayenne).
