The Pontifical Swiss Guard could open up to women

To enter the Pontifical Swiss Guard, you must currently be a man, Swiss, single, aged 19 to 30, be a practicing Catholic, have completed recruit school as well as an apprenticeship or maturity. The candidate, who commits for at least 26 months, must also have his driving license and an impeccable reputation. The Guard was founded in 1506 by Pope Julius II. It is a military corps made up of 135 Swiss citizens, whose main task is to permanently monitor and guard the personal security of the Sovereign Pontiff and the Vatican. The guards also accompany the pope on his travels.
