Bimbo Canada has announced the closure of its Lévis production plant. According to the company, production will be transferred to other bakeries, mainly in Quebec.
The closure will come into effect at the beginning of July. 95 jobs are affected by the decision.
In a press release, Bimbo Canada explained that it had made the decision to close its Lévis bakery as part of “strategic efforts” aimed at “increasing the productivity of [ses] activities by increasing the efficiency and use of [ses] capacities” while “reducing overall costs” within its factories.
According to the president of Bimbo Canada, Marie-Ève Royer, the use and production of the Lévis factory “had been in constant decline for some time” despite “efforts to maintain and strengthen the activities of the factory.”
Employees affected by the closure will be eligible for severance benefits and will be entitled to orientation services as well as external placement services. They will also be able to submit their application for vacancies in other Bimbo Canada factories in Quebec or Sainte-Marie.
Bimbo Canada produces Vachon cakes, but also Dempster’s, Villaggio, POM, Bon Matin, Ben’s, Stonemill, Takis and Sanissimo brand products.
