Within the Carladez, the building will launch its tourist season on May 15 in the afternoon.

After carrying out some work, the Château de Valon opens its doors again for the season, from Wednesday May 15, at 2:30 p.m. It is the imprint of the heritage of Carladez and the Aubrac plateau and a common history that has disappeared. It has not survived the centuries without its consequences, abandoned since the Revolution, it served as a quarry for the construction of the village.

Medieval universe

Its imposing keep remains and the renovations carried out by the community of communes over the past twenty years have restored its proud appearance. Once the door is pushed open, the curious will enter a medieval universe where many places are revealed such as, among others, the illuminations of the chapel, the warm room on the ground floor and its kitchens all made of clay, the ascent from the dungeon via an astonishing staircase, the lord’s incredible four-poster bed and, also, at the very top of the dungeon, a breathtaking, dizzying panorama between sky and earth…

Among the apples?

Valon Castle, formerly Castel d’Avalon then Vallon, takes its name “d’Aballo” which means “apple”, “apple grove”. Not so surprising, it is one of the rare places, warm in the valley, where the cultivation of precious vines and fruit trees was possible. It is still possible to discover them on the village terraces.

Open from Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays. Information on 05 65 66 10 16 and on the website chateaudevalon.com
