The 15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held this Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Banjul, in the Republic of The Gambia.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed Senegal’s position on the catastrophic situation experienced by the Gazans under the indifferent gaze of the international community and in the face of the inertia of the United Nations Security Council. »
On the sidelines of this celebration which challenges the OIC countries, the Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall, was delighted and said he was reassured by the words of the Senegalese head of state: “We we have a country which, since its independence, has always had a strong position regarding the rights of the Palestinian people. We well remember that former President Senghor gave a diplomatic passport to Yasser Arafat. Senegal still has a principled position on this issue. This is what the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye reiterated,” indicated the head of Senegalese diplomacy during an interview with Aps. According to Yassine Fall, “Senegal is a tolerant people where several faiths live. And this is an example welcomed by the international community. “The experience with the elections has shown that Senegal conveys strong values. Peace, tolerance and solidarity are the characteristics of Senegal that must be promoted. The OIC needed to take a stronger position regarding what is happening in Gaza. And I am happy to note that this summit has made a qualitative leap in terms of positioning and respect for the rights of the Palestinian people and also in demand to allow this country to promote its rights in the world,” she said, satisfied.
