A 34-year-old man was sentenced by the Assize Court of Seine-et-Marne on Saturday May 4, 2024. He received 25 years of criminal imprisonment for attempting to kill a woman in May 2021. The tragedy had took place while he was on ten-day prison leave, reports The Republic of Seine-et-Marne .

He was serving a ten-year sentence for rape

The accused had encountered his victim while he was taking a bike ride on a towpath in La Genevraye. He hit her four times with a hammer on her head before fleeing, leaving her for dead. The fifty-year-old, who miraculously survived, was found a few minutes later by two cyclists, our colleagues say.

When the attack took place, the 30-year-old was serving a ten-year sentence for a rape committed in 2014. During the trial, he explained that he had “impulses”. But the psychiatric expert revealed that he did not suffer from any pathology and that he was in full possession of his means.

In addition to his prison sentence, he received a seven-year treatment obligation and is prohibited from carrying a weapon.
