Sandiara – Departure of Dr Serigne Guèye Diop: Advisors demand the “public resignation” of the mayor – Lequotidien

The mayor of the commune of Sandiara, Dr Serigne Guèye Diop, resigned as head of town hall, in accordance with the declaration of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The latter had requested on April 5, during the establishment of the new government, that any minister-mayor should resign from his position as mayor before May 5, 2024.

However, despite this resignation by the mayor, some councilors are asking him to do so publicly.

Municipal Councilor Nakhla Tine calls on the mayor to resign publicly. “It turns out that our mayor, that of the commune of Sandiara, was appointed Minister of Industry and Commerce. Since then, he had invited his activists to a ndogou during the month of Ramadan. He declared that he had resigned, but we noted that this resignation was not effective. This has only been a theory. This is why we reiterate our call to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to tell them that Mayor Dr Serigne Guèye Diop has not yet resigned from his position as mayor of the commune of Sandiara,” informs our interlocutor.
According to him, this non-resignation has consequences on the functioning of the town hall. “We have noted, since the budgetary orientation debate and since the vote on the administrative account, that the Municipal Council has not met. Did you know that in Sandiara, we, municipal councilors, did not vote on our 2024 budget. Worse, in the municipality of Sandiara, municipal employees went without pay for four months. The students received a subsidy of 12 million per year, but currently, they are being evicted from their buildings because the town hall is unable to pay,” regrets Nakhla Tine.
Faced with these dysfunctions, this municipal councilor deplores the fact that
Sandiara remains without a mayor, without functioning. “Even the collection of municipal taxes is falling. We are experiencing a catastrophic situation, which is why we are appealing to His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who is our neighbor in Ndiaganiao, to invite Dr Serigne Guèye Diop to resign, because men pass, institutions remain .”

To get out of this situation, he shows the way to follow. “Today, there is a first deputy who is there, who can act as interim manager. This has not been done. But in any case, we, the municipal councilors, are demanding that this resignation be effective for the town hall to function, because enough is enough.”
