On this Friday dedicated to press freedom in the world, what better way to express it than to combine two strong symbols for the years to come: “Human Rights” and “Anna Politkovskaya”. This is exactly what was decided, jointly by the Human Rights League, represented by Laurent Sue, Amesty International, by Michèle Poussa, Guillaume Lepers, mayor of Villenuve and Arnaud Bourda, sub-prefect of the district.

Anna Politkovskaya, a name that resonates strongly, after her assassination for having denounced the abuses of Vladimir Putin’s regime, with all human rights defenders, all journalists, attached to their freedom to inform, all humanists who , tirelessly, fight every day so that these fundamental freedoms continue in the world, in all countries, for everyone.

Fundamental freedoms are too often attacked through illiberal regimes, which, adorning themselves with a democratic veneer, increasingly restrict these freedoms. To do this, we just need to look at what is happening at the moment on the European continent, but also in many countries around the world. “The silence of slippers often precedes the sound of boots” expressed Laurent Sue. An observation that everyone can and must fight, by explaining, by denouncing abuses of all kinds which deprive humans of their most fundamental rights.

A strong symbolic gesture to join these two words, “Human Rights” and “Anna Politkovskaya”, for history, for memory, so as not to forget.
