Sport for all: Saint-André-de-Sangonis celebrates Olympism and inclusion
From April 22 to 26, a stone’s throw from the Olympic and Paralympic Games which will take place in France, the Max Rouquette college of Saint-André-de-Sangonisin Hérault vibrated to the rhythm of sport and Olympic values.
For a week, 210 5th grade and SEGPA students were able to discover and practice a multitude of sports disciplines, adapted and classic, as part of a project called “ Sport for all“.
The rugby player, Fulgence Ouedraogo, former international of the XV of France and the MHR responded!
Blind football, boccia, basketball, workshops on food and sport, discovery of the history of the Olympics… the middle school students were full of activities, while imbuing themselves with the essential values conveyed by Olympism: respect, excellence, friendship and fair play.
Inspiring meetings with high-level athletes
Highlight of the week, the meeting with renowned athletes, able-bodied and disabled, left an impression on the minds of the young people. Among them, Cassandre Aguessy-Thomas, former pentathlete competing for the 2028 Olympics, Clément Miranda, paratennis athlete en route to the same Games, Richard Castel, former high-level rugby player, Tristan Diaz, Gignacois parafoot athlete, and many others others.
Rich and inspiring exchanges which allowed the middle school students to question the athletes about their journey, their passion, their discipline and the obstacles they had to overcome.
A strong message for the promotion of inclusive sport
Beyond sporting performances, this week was above all an opportunity to celebrate inclusion and diversity. Indeed, the “Sport for All” project allowed students from all backgrounds and all abilities to meet, share and flourish around the common values of sport.
