The canton of Friborg can now benefit from a brand new prison. After two years of expansion work, the Bellechasse detention facility was inaugurated this Friday in the presence of State Councilors Jean-François Steiert and Romain Collaud.
Completed on time, the project allowed the construction of four new buildings, “enabling separation of the different detention regimes”, indicates the State in a press release.
Prisoners under open regime will thus be able to leave the closed cell wing for a cell block with 66 new places. They will also benefit from a new medical center which will provide somatic and psychiatric care.
In another building, secure workshops were set up to give prisoners the opportunity to work.
