Activities, workshops, discussions, walks… The fifth bicycle festival, led by Nevers Agglomération, takes place in Roger-Salengro park, Saturday May 4.
Saturday May 4, we take our bikes and prepare for a busy program. Young and old, between the activities, the meetings, the different routes… Obviously, we will find what we are looking for.
On the menu for this bike festival, held at Salengro Park, (tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., this party takes place as part of the May à vélo national event) fifth of the name, what will we be able to do? ?? Before going into more detail, we retain the main objective: “it is to meet the public”, highlights André Fourcade, president of Zig Zag, one of the many actors involved in this bicycle festival led by Nevers Agglomeration. “We will make a presentation of the main cycling signs, to explain the rights of cyclists.”
An 8 meter high tower
Well what if we got on our two wheels and first gave ourselves a nice little adrenaline rush?? Be careful, it will mess up the handlebars of the vertical bike. Explanations with Christophe Lieure, manager of Mes Scènes de Stars (based in Gard). This one arrives at the Roger-Salengro park with its infernal tower and its two super bikes, equipped with mountain bike handlebars: the vertical bike, which were invented in Holland, experienced in cycling. “It’s original. It’s very successful,” says Christophe Lieure.
The principle?? Cyclists must cycle vertically along an 8 meter high tower. “It makes the bikes go up. We have them do races two by two. The first one to arrive at the top, we hear a loud ring.” No best time put into play, “it’s the first one to reach the summit. It’s impressive.” Everyone has their own method of climbing.
Some go up with their eyes closed.
“We are a bit in a void,” describes Christophe Lieure.
The latter has been offering this attraction for six months. “That’s what I’m looking for. Attractions that you don’t see everywhere. It’s fun to watch and fun to do, from 7 to 99 years old. There’s a challenge side.” Christophe Lieure was also seduced by the ecological aspect, “it’s down to the power of the pedaling. There is no motor.”

A climb to altitude that is carried out in complete safety: “People are held by a harness and by a climbing safety system.” For the descent, no need to pedal. It’s completely peaceful. (Vertical bikeall day).

The bike festival is also an opportunity to go for a ride on the roads of Nevers. Why not take the opportunity for an exclusively female outing, on mountain bike or gravel, guided by Christelle, ambassador for the French Cycling Federation of the Vivre vélo au feminine program (by the FFC which promotes cycling for women).
This, departing from the park at 10 a.m., offers a one and a half hour ride for everyone, whatever their level. “It could be a mother and her daughter. A lady who wants to take a walk on Saturday morning… For me, it’s out, it’s more about bringing a dynamic between women, in the idea of sorority. I don’t specify the kilometers. It’s on the banks of the Loire. We’ll be able to take photos. I hope there will be as many people as possible. is not limited in number, then everyone will be able to enjoy the bike festival.” Without forgetting that a small gift will be given to each person upon arrival.
A little clarification again, all these activities, dedicated to cycling, are free.

Gather at 2 p.m. at the park for supervised bike rides: two road bike courses of 15 and 30 km; two mountain bike routes of 17 and 26 km. Bicycle exchange: purchase and resale of used bicycles: from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: bicycle drop-off; from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.: sale of bicycles.
Activities: BMX track, initiation and demonstration, testing of electric bikes, cargo bike, scooter, electric scooter, etc., skill and agility course, bike adjustment workshop, presentation of Loire, Nivernais, Morvan bike routes, etc., Road safety , MTB trials shows. Twenty exhibitors will be present all day.
