A commemoration in tribute to the Alsatian victims of the Shoah is planned for Sunday May 5 from Place Broglie in Strasbourg. The event is co-organized by four Alsatian Jewish institutions: the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (Crif) Alsace, the Israelite Consistory of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin, and the Liberal Jewish Union of Strasbourg at opportunity to Yom Hashoaha day dedicated to the remembrance of the victims of the Shoah which begins in 2024 on Sunday May 5 and lasts until the evening of Monday May 6.

Sunday, the day will begin at 10 a.m. with speeches from representatives of the City of Strasbourg, the Grand Est Region and the Alsace Community, as well as the four Jewish institutions. These speeches will be followed by songs and the lighting of six candles, representing the six million Jewish victims of Nazism and the 600,000 Roma victims.

From 11 a.m., a participatory reading of the more than 4,000 names of Jewish Alsatians victims of the Shoah is planned.
