Everything is going well at the moment for the Stade Brestois attack which has scored 12 times in the last four matches. And in particular for Steve Mounié, who scored three times during the period although he had not done so since the beginning of February. A sharp blade found for the final sprint, but who does not only have this sporting issue in mind: his contract with Stade Brestois expires next June. And if for the moment the Beninese, author of six goals and two assists in his 29 Ligue 1 matches, has not yet responded to the extension proposal made by the club with two months to go, his coach Eric Roy made no secret of wanting to keep it for the coming year. I have a pretty clear opinion. I told Steve a month or two ago that if it was up to me – because I’m not involved in the negotiations at all – I would really like to keep him with us. I expressed to him my vision of what I wanted, because it is important to me and to the group. But then it will be his decision. He has a proposal in his hands, it will be up to him to make the right choice.

“Perhaps our end of the season will tip the scales”

If the prospect of playing in Europe for the first time could push the 29-year-old striker in this direction, the technician knows that it is not only the sporting aspect that will be taken into account. I can understand that in his situation, in relation to his age and the fact that he is free, that he wants to have the best contract possible. And it’s true that at this level, the best possible contract is not necessarily in Brest. Other things come into play : money is always important, we don’t forget that we are professionals and that it comes into account in career decisions. Maybe our end of the season will tip the scales for him to stay with us, we’ll see. »
