Bordeaux: Albert Riera promises promotion to L1 on one condition

Having come very close to returning to Ligue 1 last season, Bordeaux are having a much more complicated season in Ligue 2 currently. Albert Riera was quite evasive regarding his future, three matches before the end of the championship.

Currently 14th in Ligue 2 with 44 points on the clock, Bordeaux only needs one small point to definitively ensure its maintenance. Although the Girondins’ goal was to move back up to Ligue 1, the possibility of a descent has hovered over the club all season. Albert Riera arrived last October, to succeed David Guion. But the results of the Spanish technician are more than average. While supporters are still waiting for the arrival of a minority shareholder to replenish the coffers, Bordeaux continues to stagnate and will struggle to be promoted next season without greater financial resources. Albert Riera is very uncertain about his future as coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux.

Albert Riera persists, he can save Bordeaux

“At the end of the season, we will see the club’s possibilities. A president and a sports director must decide whether I am the man for the project, or not. I’m confident I know how to do things to move up. I don’t want to go out the back door. Afterwards, I need resources, listening to the way we work” declared the former midfielder at a press conference, in comments reported by the media Sud Ouest. A situation which certainly does not please the supporters. Bordeaux is in crisis and will have difficulty properly replacing Albert Riera if the latter is sacked, as the club is in a delicate situation. Nevertheless, the Spaniard seems to be convinced that he can still be the man for the job in Bordeaux. It remains to be seen whether the leaders are of the same opinion.
