As part of the 38th edition of the exchange with the Hittfeld school in Germany19 Germanist students from the college School city and Val de Garonne high school de Marmande spent a week alongside 24 German comrades.

Partly financed by the Franco-German Youth Office, this meeting took place from April 7 to 12, 2024 in Strasbourg And Freiburg im Bresgau around themes linked toEuropean Union.

In addition to the educational interest inlanguage learningthis stay allowed students to create unique links while discovering European institutions.

“Learning German in class is good, but practicing with the language, on site, makes perfect sense,” explains Christelle Beaudoin, German teacher who initiated the stay.

If German students are usually welcomed in September at Marmandeand the French in Germany in March, this 38th edition was an opportunity to innovate a new format.

“The idea was to organize a meeting in a neutral location. The students who had already done the exchange last year found this formula very interesting, because last year, some were afraid, after the morning of classes (Editor’s note: German students finish their day of classes around 1 p.m.) of found in families. Being with German students 24 hours a day for a week facilitated contact, in the absence of the correspondent’s parents,” explains Christine Beaudoin.

The French and German students were mixed and divided into groups so that they could exchange ideas. »

Symbol of the bonds formed between them, a German student created a WhatsApp group at the time of departure on the station platform in Strasbourg. They will meet again in less than six months, at the end of September in Marmande for the 39th edition of the exchange.
